Sunflower Chocolate
The sunflower that surprises. Sunflower Chocolate produces rich, velvety blooms in deep mahogany-brown and burgundy — a colour so far from the classic yellow that it stops people in their tracks and works as a sophisticated, moody element in arrangements that the golden varieties cannot provide.
Branching habit gives multiple stems per plant. Outstanding for cutting and for hot, dark-toned borders alongside deep purples and burnt oranges.
- Helianthus annuus 'Chocolate' — Half-Hardy Annual (H2)
- Height: 120–150cm | Flowers: July–September
- Sow indoors April–May or direct May–June; full sun
- Rich, well-drained soil — water generously
- Branching habit — multiple cutting stems per plant
Grow it with Amaranthus Love-Lies-Bleeding and Zinnia Giants of California for a dark, dramatic late-summer border of mahogany, crimson, and hot orange.
