Pansy Swiss Giant Ullswater Deep Blue
The jewel of the winter garden. Pansy Swiss Giant Ullswater Deep Blue is a heritage variety producing large, open blooms in rich, velvety indigo-blue centred with a deep black face — a colour of extraordinary saturation that provides a jewel-like sparkle in window boxes, containers, and spring borders when the rest of the garden is dormant.
Sow in summer for winter and spring colour; sow in spring for a summer display. Edible blooms. Approximately 100 seeds per packet.
- Viola × wittrockiana 'Ullswater' — Hardy Biennial (H5)
- Height: 15–25cm | Flowers: autumn–spring (if summer sown)
- Sow June–August for winter colour; February–April for summer
- Cover completely — needs cool darkness to germinate (15–18°C)
- Full sun to partial shade; moisture-retentive, fertile soil
- Deadhead regularly — feed fortnightly in containers
Grow it with Wallflower Cloth of Gold for the classic blue-and-gold spring combination that has graced English cottage gardens for centuries.
