Nigella 'Miss Jekyll' White (Love-in-a-mist)
The white sister of the classic blue Love-in-a-mist — and in many ways the more ethereal of the two. Semi-double snowy white flowers sit nestled in a ruff of fine, fennel-like foliage, and from a distance a drift of them looks like a low-hanging cloud drifting through the border in early summer.
Soft, romantic, and frothy in flower, it transforms entirely as the petals fall — the centre swelling into magnificent balloon-shaped seed pods that stand tall through autumn and dry beautifully for winter arrangements. Listed on the RHS Plants for Pollinators.
- Nigella damascena 'Miss Jekyll White' — Hardy Annual (H3)
- Height: 45–50cm | Spread: 25cm | Flowers: June–August
- Approximately 400 seeds per packet
- Spacing: 20cm apart — sow direct where it is to flower
- RHS Plants for Pollinators listed
- Exceptional for wedding bouquets and cottage borders
Grow it alone for a dreamy white border, or weave it through blue and rose varieties for a planting scheme of quiet complexity.
