The most reliable leek in the range — and an RHS Award of Garden Merit variety. Leek Musselburgh is a Scottish heritage variety producing broad-shouldered, frost-defying stems with a sweet, mellow flavour that is outstanding in soups, gratins, and tarts — standing firm through the hardest British winters and providing a harvest from October through to April.
- Allium ampeloprasum 'Musselburgh' — RHS AGM, Hardy Biennial (Scottish heritage)
- Sow: February–April indoors; plant out June–July; harvest: October–April
- Full sun; rich, deep, well-drained soil
- Dibble holes 15cm deep, 15cm apart; drop in and water — do not backfill
- Frost-hardy — stands through the hardest British winters
