• Allium ampeloprasum 'Blue Solaise' — Hardy Biennial (French heirloom)
• Sow: February–April indoors; plant out June–July; harvest: November–March
• Full sun; rich, deep, well-drained soil
• Dibble holes 15cm deep, 15cm apart; drop in and water — do not backfill
• Turns violet-blue after hard frosts — outstanding ornamental winter vegetable
• Late-season variety — best from November onwards
