Ipomoea Heavenly Blue
The most romantic climber you can grow from seed. Ipomoea Heavenly Blue produces large, trumpet-shaped flowers in a pure, clear sky-blue that is one of the rarest and most beautiful colours in the garden — each bloom opening fresh every morning and lasting through the day, covering a fence, trellis, or obelisk in a cascade of blue from midsummer to the first frosts.
Fast-growing to 2–3m in a single season. Soak seeds overnight before sowing to aid germination. Tender — plant out only after all risk of frost has passed.
- Ipomoea tricolor 'Heavenly Blue' — Half-Hardy Annual (H1)
- Height: 2–3m | Flowers: July–first frost
- Sow indoors April–May; soak seeds overnight; sow individually
- Full sun; well-drained soil — plant out June only
- Provide support — twines readily by itself
- Each flower lasts one day; new blooms open daily
Grow it up a sunny fence or obelisk and let it do what it does best — fill the garden with pure blue from July to October.
