Daucus Carota Dara
The moody, vintage sister of Ammi majus. Daucus carota Dara produces large, lacy umbels that transform from blush-pink to deep crimson and chocolate as they age — a wild, meadow-style elegance that adds depth and drama to every vase and border that the pure white varieties cannot match.
A biennial that self-seeds freely once established, naturalising into a permanent presence in the cutting garden. Outstanding for hoverflies and one of the most sought-after stems in the florist’s repertoire.
- Daucus carota 'Dara' — Hardy Biennial (H5)
- Height: 60–90cm | Flowers: June–August (Year 2)
- Sow outdoors May–July; flowers the following summer
- Full sun; well-drained soil — direct sow preferred
- Self-seeds freely — naturalises beautifully over time
- Outstanding hoverfly plant — excellent for cutting
Grow it with Ammi majus for a two-tone lace combination of white and chocolate that is one of the most beautiful things in the summer cutting garden.
