Cumin

Sale price£1.95

The most rewarding exotic herb you can grow in a British summer. Cumin produces delicate, fennel-like foliage on compact plants, followed by flat-topped flower heads and then the earthy, nutty, sun-ripened seeds that are the backbone of Indian, Mexican, and Middle Eastern cooking — and taste nothing like the dried seeds from a jar. Needs warmth — a greenhouse or polytunnel gives the best results. Approximately 200 seeds per packet.

  • Cuminum cyminum — Half-Hardy Annual (H2)
  • Height: 30–40cm | Harvest: August–September
  • Approximately 200 seeds per packet
  • Sow indoors April–May at 20°C; greenhouse recommended for seed ripening
  • Full sun; well-drained soil — avoid overwatering
  • Harvest seed heads when brown; dry thoroughly before storing
