Cornflower Mauve Boy
The softest member of the cornflower family. Mauve Boy produces double blooms in a gentle, dusty mauve-lilac — a colour that sits beautifully between the classic blue and the blush pink, and blends into a cottage border with a quiet, understated elegance.
Ultra-hardy, cut-and-come-again, and thriving in poor soil. Particularly effective woven through silver foliage or pale grasses, where the soft mauve seems to float. Listed on the RHS Plants for Pollinators.
- Centaurea cyanus 'Mauve Boy' — Hardy Annual (H7)
- Height: 75–90cm | Flowers: June–September
- Approximately 200 seeds per packet
- Direct sow September for early blooms, or March–May — do not transplant
- Full sun; thrives in poor, well-drained soil — do not over-feed
- RHS Plants for Pollinators listed — petals edible
Grow it with Nigella Miss Jekyll Mixed for a hazy, romantic border in soft mauves, blues, and pinks.
