Corncockle Bianca
The white corncockle — and a luminous one. Bianca produces large, open trumpets with silky white petals that seem to glow against slender, silver-grey stems, swaying and weaving through companion plants with a grace that no bedding plant can replicate. A moon garden treasure and an outstanding cut flower.
Ultra-hardy (H7, to -20°C), thriving in poor soil, and self-seeding reliably once established. Autumn sowing produces the tallest, most floriferous plants. Note: all parts of the plant, especially the seeds, are poisonous if ingested.
- Agrostemma githago 'Bianca' — Hardy Annual (H7)
- Height: 60–90cm | Flowers: June–August
- Approximately 100 seeds per packet
- Direct sow September for early blooms, or March–May — do not transplant
- Full sun; poor, well-drained soil — do not over-feed
- Self-seeds reliably — naturalises beautifully over time
Grow it with Ammi majus for the ultimate white-on-white moon garden combination — trumpet and lace, glowing together at dusk.
