Achillea Cloth of Gold
The giant of the achillea world — and one of the most architectural plants you can grow from seed. While most yarrows top out around knee height, Cloth of Gold rises confidently to 1.2–1.5m, carrying flat-topped flower plates the size of a side plate in the warmest shade of mustard-gold the genus produces.
Stiff, self-supporting stems clothed in finely-cut, aromatic foliage hold the plates high above the border, providing real height and structure from midsummer through to autumn. Exceptional for cutting, outstanding for drying, and a magnet for pollinators throughout.
- Achillea filipendulina 'Cloth of Gold' — Hardy Perennial
- Height: 1.2–1.5m | Flowers: July–September
- Full sun; well-drained soil — drought-tolerant once established
- Self-supporting — no staking required
- Excellent for cutting fresh and drying
- Outstanding pollinator plant
Plant at the back of a border with Verbena bonariensis and ornamental grasses for a late-summer planting scheme of real distinction.
