Sherborne

Sherborne (established in 705AD) is a picturesque town in north west Dorset. Its elegance and charm are well known and it is widely accepted as one of the most beautiful towns in England.

Sherborne Abbey is at the heart of Sherborne, surrounded by picture-perfect medieval buildings and a partially pedestrianised high street (Cheap Street is closed to traffic between 12pm – 4pm Monday to Saturday).

Sherborne boasts two castles. Sherborne Old Castle is a fortified 12th century bishops palace and the tremendous ruins can be visited through English Heritage. Sherborne New Castle – Sherborne Castle and Gardens is a 16th century Tudor mansion, stately home to the Digby family and located within the English landscape of Capability Brown. The castle, stunning grounds and breath-taking lake and can be visited by booking at SherborneCastle.com. Sherborne Castle and Gardens also host a magnitude of events each year and you can find us within their magnificent gardens at the Sherborne Castle Country Fair towards the end of May.

Sherborne has world renowned schools including Sherborne School, Sherborne Girls, Sherborne Preparatory, Leweston School, Sherborne International, Sherborne Primary, Sherborne Abbey Primary, The Gryphon School and Kaleidoscope Nursery.

Sherborne is very well linked situated 6 miles east of Yeovil on the A30 and only 6 miles south from the A303. It also has a railway station which sits on the London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids line and takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes to travel to Waterloo by train,

The Sherborne Market, where we are regulars, runs every 3rd Sunday (with a few exceptions taking into account other local events such as Pack Monday Fair) and goes the length of Cheap Street, Half Moon Street, Digby Road and Pageant Gardens. Our regular pitch is in Pageant Gardens opposite the train station.

Pack Monday Fair dates back to 1790 and is said to have first come about to mark the packing up of the workman’s tools upon completion of the Abbey. Pack Monday fills the streets and brings visitors into the town from far and wide. It is traditionally held on the first Monday after the 10th October each year. Pack Monday is a medieval street fair that brings the town to life with stalls, events and entertainment throughout the town and a family fun fair at the terraces.

Cheap Street is bustling with traditional shops, antiques, bakers, pubs and independent cafes.

A visit here will surely not disappoint
